MARIA BROPHY (Suggested for Stage Three; Learning)
• The art business is ever-changing. Even if you can’t see the value in something new, be open to it. The more flexible you are, the better off you’ll be.
• The most important thing is to connect with people. Do this by communicating clearly who you are, what’s important to you and what you are passionate about.
• Learn how to tell stories about your art. People want to know you’re human. Artists are the most “human” people in the world.
• Get out of your comfort zone and your usual space. Put yourself out there to open yourself up more.
• Your audience doesn’t grow unless you feed it. Choose one aspect of marketing and master it. Commit to it for a year.
• There is an emotional cost to ourselves when we hide who we are. When we are ourselves, we can go deeper with the work and, in turn, the work will actually go much further.
