Gouache paint is somewhat a mystery to artists, and is not used all that often. It’s a shame, because it’s a beautiful matte medium that carries unique qualities and offers really beautiful color. • Gouache can be used in layers, with pencils, and sanded down.
• Gouache is a water-based medium—a half step between watercolor and acrylic.
• It is always water-soluble. It is not permanent.
• Its dark pigments dry darker and the lighter pigments dry lighter.
• You can fix it with acrylic spray.
• If you want to try them out, just start with 5 basic colors and play.
