THE CONSTANT SEARCH (Suggested for Stage Three; Learning)
Zio Ziegler is an American painter and sculptor, born in 1988. He is known for his intricately patterned paintings and his large-scale murals that can be seen in major cities in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Motivated and driven by a comprehensive knowledge of art history, a sensitivity to the pervasiveness of technology, and the ubiquity of image making…and a zeal to create, Zio Ziegler’s work is defined by his personal array of colors and recurring motifs.
A few of Zio’s thoughts from the interview:
• He learned the basics and the classics, and brought along with a love for structured, graphic work.
• He felt he pigeon-holed himself too early, due to impatience and wanting to move forward too quickly.
• Zio is motivated and driven by a comprehensive knowledge of both art history and contemporary painters. He is always studying other artists’ work, in trying to understand his own path.
• The only way to get answers is to spend time, lots of time, in front of paintings. Things take time to permeate.
• There is a voodoo to painting. If you look at something long enough, or keep something around you long enough there is a heritage. You choose what you give birth to by who and what you look at.
• He would like not to have the artist’s journey be done in a public way. He would rather find a path that allows you to grow and keep going, scrapping the traditional system.
• The more honest you are and the more you strip away, the more your work reveals the feeling of you really are. The more you force your work, the less organic it will feel.
• There is no conclusion, only more questions. You find your way by what you’re interested in.
