RE-CREATION (Suggested for Stage Four: Integration)
Brent Crothers wants to express something in his work about the world we live in, and creates pieces that are a dialogue between him and the world. Incorporating unappreciated and discarded materials, he transforms them into small communities to create forms, giving the materials new life and their own stories to tell. In this Inspiration interview, Susan Melrath and Brent discuss his path into art and sculpture, the inspiration for his amazing pieces, and more.
Highlights from the interview:
• Living in the forest, it has become a spiritual place for him. He sees nature as having its own architecture.
• Ideas come from both studying materials and what is happening internally and in his environment. He is open to where the materials lead him.
• Brent’s work is often metaphorical and carries deep meanings about our society, nature and human behavior.
• He makes connections from his environment and experiences to found materials.
• Everything is potential material for his work. He takes discarded items and transforms them into art.
• The titling of his work has become very important, providing viewers with a little insight, and enough room to interpret for themselves.
